Be Well Chiropractic: Stretching But Still Experiencing Pain & Tension? Consider This!

Have you ever asked yourself the question, “Why am I stretching and still experiencing pain and tension?”

If you have been stretching and you find that the pain and tension just keep coming back, it might be time to consider thinking about doing some strength work. Knowing whether to stretch or strengthen a muscle can sometimes be like the chicken and the egg but oftentimes if stretching isn’t working, it’s time to introduce some strength and endurance work.

When our muscles lose strength and conditioning, they will fatigue a lot quicker causing the muscle to be overloaded. This can lead to pain, muscle tension and myofascial trigger points or knots in the muscle. Think of your muscles like a piece of rope. If you pull and stretch the rope when it has a knot in it, what happens? The knot gets tighter. This is why oftentimes you can be stretching the muscle but the pain and tension just keeps coming back. Building strength will help your muscles handle the day to day stresses and load without leading to fatigue, muscle tension and myofascial trigger points.

We need to have good joint mobility whilst also having good strength and endurance so you can avoid muscle imbalances and prevent injury. This is why at Kingaroy Chiropractic and Wellness we incorporate a multi-model approach incorporating chiropractic adjustments, joint mobilisations, soft tissue therapies and rehabilitation exercises. When we experience any type of pain or symptom it’s our body telling us that something is going on. It’s important that we not only address the pain and symptoms but also address the underlying causes or why the pain and tension is showing up in the first place.

If you’re currently experiencing ongoing pain and tension, the team at Be Well Chiropractic are here to help. Your chiropractor will perform a thorough examination to help determine what is going on and then create a tailored plan to help you get back to living a stronger, healthier, more active life.
